Ireland Atlantic Coast

Dominican Friars first came to Ireland in 1224 and they had built 38 houses with churches and chapels such as this before the suppression of monasteries occurred under Henry the V111. The Burrishoole Friary was abandoned in 1698 with the expulsion of the Catholic Clergy. The roof collapsed in 1793 and all that remains now is parts of the church and convent cloister. The oldest monument is the O'Kelly altar tomb dated 1623. We love wandering around and exploring these types of old ruins.
